FROM THE PASTOR'S PEN... June 2010

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

We will have an excellent VBS beginning Sunday evening June 13, from 5:30-7:30 through Wednesday and 5:30-8:00 on Thursday for our children pre-school to 5th grade. Pastor Bucky is currently laying the foundation of some vision casting which will attempt to over emphasize our attention(not at the expense of destroying what we are already doing in other areas of course) on the 'elementary age group and their parents' so that we can have a platform to build on for numerical and qualitative growth in St. Paul's future, which includes making a consistent natural feeder bridge into Tammy Hodges' older middle school/senior high program each year. This priority type directional vision will be presented to Council first to chew on and tweak or change completely if need be, but then will be presented to the entire congregation, not as a fete a complis, but as an opportunity for further input and a very serious time for all of us to literally pray to God for God's discernment and wisdom.

Summer often finds, not just our church, but many churches with so many people going on literal vacations at different times, that both teachers and students can't be consistent in attendance and the entire Sunday School experience may at least be perceived by the students as a bit anemic. So, beginning Sunday, June 6, Bonnie Mabry's Sunday School Class and Sunday School for our children and youth will go on summer vacation for about two and a half months (this also means that the YA'LL Class will take a break since so many adults in this class have children to take care of). The exception that makes the rule is that Pastor Bucky's adult class will still meet at the usual 9:30 a.m. time. There's good news and bad news to this approach. The bad news definitely includes the fact that when someone or some activity at our Church goes on vacation during the summer for a period of time, it is sometimes very difficult to jump start the habit of coming back on Sundays before 9:30 rather than before 10:30. We hope to have a terrific Sunday School Rally Day to start back up in the late Summer/early Fall when most schools begin their academic year anew to help compensate a bit. The good news however, is that we have some excellent adult leaders already signed up who will take turns each Sunday morning during the summer to teach our children during Children's Church, which meets right after the children's message in our 10:30 Corporate Worship Service. We are looking for a few more adults as a matter of fact, to fill in the gap for just one Sunday during the summer. Please let us know if you would sign up for one Sunday to help a lead teacher or even be a lead teacher.

Sincerely...In His Grip,

Soli Deo Gloria
Pastor Bucky
