Why Die?

Greeks, non-Jews, Gentiles come with the request to "see Jesus."

When Jesus is informed of this request he immediately starts talking about it being time to die! Why?

Turns out to be a fulfillment of prophesy and once that occurs it is time to bring God's plan to the climax, to the cross.

And so Jesus speaks of dying. And he uses this image of a seed that ceases to be for the plant to emerge.

And this glorious new life becomes fruitful almost beyond imagination. It's a way of saying that Jesus will die for our well-being. So we can be a part of the salvation God is working.

Verse 25 states the same truth but now applies that to our lives. We too must die, even as Jesus did. Because life is found only when we are willing to live like we are dying.

Our society teaches that life is about acquiring and holding on to what is ours.

Jesus says that's a prescription for death and destruction. You want to live, you gotta let it go.

If fear were not an issue what would you do?

Jesus has to address that question as well. Living like you are dying is not for sissies and wimps. It takes men and women of real courage. It takes a Savior of real courage too.

If you want the comfortable and safe life you are following the wrong Lord. This is a gut-check kind of faith.

How can we live like we are dying? Breathe in; breathe out; move on.

Breathe in the Holy Spirit, the breath of heaven, the power of God. Breathe out the fear that chokes you, the fear that keeps you from following our Lord. Move on in Christ.
