“JESUS WAS SENT TO RECOVER
SIGHT TO THE BLIND”

Mark 10:46-52

3 Possible Types of Blindness

I. First Kind: Physical like that of Bartimaeus

A. Consequences of physical blindness at that time
B. His only hope of a cure - A gift of faith
C. If healed - he would have to live a different life
D. Was there any other hope than Jesus alone?

II. Second Kind: That of a follower of Christ

A. Disciples could see physically, but could not see the will of God
B. Healing the blind was outside of their experience
C. John 9:32 "Never since the beginning of the world has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind"
D. The crowds had no compassion on this blind man
E. The crowds thought Jesus had more important things to do (irony: the religious on their way to a religius festival - miss the will of God)
F. They're in the right place, listening to the right things - but with a wrong heart/mind set.

III. Blindness of our Generation?

IV. The Hope of our Lutheran Heritage

Martin Luther pointed to Christ alone for our hope...

Luther protested when the religious searched elsewhere than faith(a gift) in Christ Alone
